interpretive center

Small group studio project instructed by Steve Badanes, designed in collaboration with Washington State Parks and the Washington State Parks Foundation. Rosario Beach, a popular destination within Deception Pass State Park, attracts an increasing number of visitors, often as large school groups. Re-design of the visitor experience attempts to slow the pace from urban life to natural observation and respect for sacred lands. A new interpretive center will educate, inspire, and serve as transition between parking lot and the stunning Rosario Beach. Strict design guidelines required Civilian Conservation Corps materials and structure, which we integrated with passive daylighting and ventilation, geothermal heating and cooling, and a minimal building footprint. Construction scheduled for late 2009.
